The adventures of Jake the Dog and Finn the Human might be coming to theaters. Deadline reports that Warner Bros. and Cartoon Network Studios are in the process of developing a film version of Adventure Time. Series creator Pendleton Ward has been tapped to help write and produce the film, alongside The Lego Batman Movie director Chris McKay.

Adventure Time is one of Cartoon Network's most beloved and critically-acclaimed properties, which by now includes games and comics in addition to the show. The series follows Finn and Jake, two adventurers as they face down magic and evil in the post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo. Most the action is silly and even surreal, but the story has increasingly delved into darker territory with each passing season, with pure evil entities like the Lich making important appearances and even episodes that approach Lovecraftian themes. It's not clear where the film will exist in the series' ever expanding continuity and there's no release date yet, but fans should be excited to see it come to the big screen.
